MDAcne

What do you do?
MDAcne helps people solve their skin problems.

How does it work?
Half a billion people have acne, but 90% of them never go to a dermatologist. These people aren’t sure how to treat themselves and often use ineffective treatments and their acne problems affect their lives.

Someone can download MDacne today, take a quick selfie and get instant, personalized treatment plan that guides them through the day, as well as track their improvement and commit to their treatment over time. MDAcne is a complete acne solution includes checkups, charts, a community, all available via an app. It also has an “ask a dermatologist” feature to ask unlimited questions.

Why is it better than what’s currently on the market?
Most people are untreated completely. The ones that go to dermatologists get a very short visit, but don’t get any of the long term tracking and commitment features that would actually lead to their acne problems being solved. We’re the #1 acne app in the App Store. It’s a free download with a paid subscription tier.

Who are the founders?
The founders are a father/son team where the father is a Columbia-trained Dermatologist who invented the blue light acne treatment.


Supr Daily

What does your company do?
Supr Daily is a daily milk delivery service in India.

What problem are you solving?
Urban consumers in India get fresh milk delivered to their doorstep every morning by a local milkman. There’s no software in this market, leaving consumers calling their milkman if they need to change their order. Worse, 68% of milk in India is adulterated – mixed with water and sometimes harmful products like detergent and white paint. A lot of this adulteration happens in the supply chain which has multiple middlemen between the farm and the consumer.

How does it work?
We have built an easy to use app that is convenient and flexible. We have additionally created a farm to home supply chain that eliminates 4-5 levels of middlemen thereby ensuring unadulterated high quality milk.

What’s your traction?
In just over a year, we have delivered more than half a million milk orders with 90% daily repeat.

Why is this valuable?
We are building a supply chain in India that will reach 100 Million urban consumers every single day. We believe we can turn delivery into a utility service like electricity or water that just comes to your home every day without fail, instead of an on-demand service. As a result, we have been able to reduce scheduled delivery costs to less than $0.05 per delivery which is orders of magnitude less than the current industry benchmarks.


Bitrise

What does your company do?
Bitrise automates mobile building, testing and deployment. Bitrise is completely extensible, letting developers seamlessly integrate 30+ third party services.

Who are your customers?
Mobile developers on iOS and Android. Companies such as Microsoft, Foursquare, Fox, TNT, and Strava, along with more than 7,000 developers all use Bitrise to build their mobile applications.

What is the primary problem you are solving and why has no one solved it before?
Bitrise automates all the manual tasks in building, testing, and deploying an application. We are the most open platform for building and testing apps that lets developers tie together any tools they want.

Why did you decide to start Bitrise?
We had a mobile development agency and needed a good mobile CI tool. We tried the existing CI tools and none of them were customizable enough for our use-case, so we built our own.


Bulletin

What does your company do?
WeWork for Retail Space. Any business can lease space in our stores and display their products in 5 days or less.

Who are your customers?
Brands selling a physical product interested in accessing retail space. In our SoHo store for example, we host companies like Keap (candles), SHHHOWERCAP (showercaps), Beloforte (activewear) and Dokonoko (fashion).

What is the primary problem you are solving and why has no one solved it before?
Today, 1 in 10 storefronts are vacant even in the highest trafficked neighborhoods of Manhattan. Millions of business are desperate to access retail space but simply can’t afford a long term lease.

What is the primary reason why people use your product over a competitor?
There isn’t a true, functional competitor. No one is leveraging technology and sharing. No one is allowing brands to both temporarily rent and share space, to make it more cost effective. No one is getting product on the shelves in 5 days or less. People use us over marketplaces like Storefront because there’s no build out required for the brand, we’re providing them with a trained retail associate, an iPad where they can control data next to their product and built-in store traffic. They have the same level of exposure and control, but it’s exponentially more cost effective.

Why did you decide to start Bulletin?
We started Bulletin with the goal of building a better Etsy and joined YC’s fellowship program (W16). During the program, we did a few pop up shops to market our new company. The pop ups were a huge success. We quickly learned that emerging brands were more interested in selling in stores and didn’t really want another online sales channel to manage. We completely shifted our model to focus on retail space.
